Twenty graduates of technology or teacher training college courses will be offered work placements with Microsoft in the New Year to help develop digital material for Ireland's school curriculum.
As part of a deal signed by the country's Ministry for Education and Science, they will be based in Microsoft Ireland headquarters in Dublin and will work with the National Centre for Technology in Education (NCTE) on tasks aimed at supporting the integration of information communications technology (ICT) into teaching and learning.
“I am delighted that Microsoft Ireland is taking this initiative and supporting my drive to increase the use of ICT in our schools," said Minister Batt O’Keeffe. “It is encouraging that 20 graduates will get valuable work experience on a project that will have a lasting impact on our education system. I would encourage eligible graduates to apply for these placements."
In November, the Irish Government announced it would spend €150 million to equip Irish schools with the latest technology. Under the plan, every classroom in the country will get a teaching laptop, software and digital projector over the next three years.
